Enjoy this super easy gyro pizza with tzatziki sauce for your next family pizza night. It's an easy recipe that is a creative take on the traditional gyro sandwich.
What makes this Greek-inspired pizza so easy, is that it includes our pre-cooked gyro meat that just needs to be thawed and can be paired with a premade pizza dough, naan, pita or flatbread for the crust.
You can keep it simple by using store-bought tzatziki sauce, or use our tzatziki sauce recipe, which includes simple ingredients of Greek yogurt, lemon juice, cucumbers, garlic and dill.
Gyro meat, sliced into 1/2 inch pieces
Red onions, sliced
Tomatoes, sliced
Fresh mozzarella cheese, balls or a log cut into slices
Crumbled feta cheese
Olive oil
Tzatziki sauce (recipe here)
Greek Seasoning
Pizza crust: premade, dough, pita, naan, flatbread or your favorite pizza crust recipe. You can also try our flatbread recipe for a crust as well.
Prepare your pizza crust, if you are making homemade pizza dough or store-bought pizza dough. Follow the directions as noted on the package or in the recipe.
If you’re using pita bread, flatbread or other premade pizza crusts that don’t require baking, heat oven to 425 degrees. For a crispy crust, use a pizza stone and omit using a pizza pan.
Drizzle olive oil over the top of the pizza crust. If you’re baking the pizza crust, do this at the point when you’ll be adding pizza toppings.
Next, assemble the pizza toppings by adding the sliced gyro meat and then the sliced, fresh mozzarella cheese. Add as much of the toppings as you feel necessary for the size of the pizza crust.
Lightly sprinkle the pizza with the Greek Seasoning.
Place the pizza on the oven rack or pizza stone, baking the pizza until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown, about 7-12 minutes. The cook time will vary depending on the size of the pizza.
While the pizza is baking, prepare your homemade tzatziki sauce (recipe here), or use a premade sauce.
Once the pizza is done, let it rest for 5 minutes.
Then add the fresh toppings: onion, diced tomatoes, lettuce, and, the best part, drizzle tzatziki sauce on top.
If you know you might have leftovers or if you're serving your pizza with the whole family or have guests who might not like certain toppings, top the pizza slices as you eat them.
Serve additional tzatziki sauce in a small bowl for dipping or so you can add more if you choose.
A variety of substitutions can be used with this pizza recipe:
Substitute shredded mozzarella cheese for the fresh mozzarellaSubstitute the olive oil for an infused olive oil, such as garlic olive oil or basil olive oilSubstitute fresh basil for the lettuceSubstitute the goat gyro for other protein options of gyro, such as beef gyro, lamb gyro or chicken gyro
The tomatoes, onions, and feta cheese can be added before the pizza is baked for a different flavor experienceAdd kalamata olives or try cherry tomatoes Try grilling the pizza for a different experience Eat the leftovers for breakfast, warm up the pizza and crisp in a pan, and top with a fried egg and tzatziki sauce
